Nursery School News March was a very busy month at Nursery School. We honored our teachers at a special service on March 4th. Thanks so much to those who attended. It means a great deal to the teachers to know that their hard work, love and dedication are appreciated. On March 16th, we took our annual Nursery School photos. The children always look so adorable dressed up for “picture day” and this is a wonderful fundraiser for our school. Our fundraising committee is working hard to produce a brand new N.S. Cookbook. When you get your forms, please be sure to submit your favorite recipe. We hope that everyone will buy a copy to support the Nursery School. In March we also celebrated Purim, which is always a joyful day at Nursery School. The children came to school in costume, entertained their parents with Purim songs and re-enacted the story of brave Queen Esther. Sally Winter (a.k.a. Simcha the Clown) once again mesmerized the children with her magic tricks and stories. We can’t thank Sally enough for doing this for us for so many years! April brings Passover and the children will be learning the story of the Exodus of our people from Egypt, even more timely now in light of the current situation in the Middle East. Again, the parents will join us for a Passover Seder that is always an unforgettable memory for all of our Nursery School families. Wishing all of you a zissen Pesach, Lori Scott, N.S. Director TBS
Religious School…
A MESSAGE FROM RELIGIOUS SCHOOL We celebrated Purim with the reading of the Megillah, our Youth Group Carnival, baking hamantashen in our classes, masks, costumes and Shalach Manot baskets for families and Rockland County seniors. Purim cards, pictures and letters were also sent to soldiers overseas via www.koshertroops.com.Grade 4 participated in the mitzvah of “Tikkun Olam” (repairing the world). They learned about the terrible fires in Northern Israel and collected enough money to plant 10 trees through the Jewish National Fund. They made a difference and we are all so very proud of them. I am sure that when you receive this bulletin, you will be busy with Passover preparation. Each year our Religious School students are instilled with a deeper understanding of the meaning of Passover. We know that the children will be excited to share what they have learned this year with you at your family Seders. Our Religious School students are now also busily preparing for Passover. Among American Jews, Passover is the most celebrated of all Jewish holidays and it is a holiday that creates the most memories. Passover is a warm, family-oriented holiday involving many tangible symbols and opportunities for participation by each family member. RS children learn through hands-on experiences. With each object we construct, with each recipe we prepare, with each song we sing, children gain a better understanding and appreciation of our customs, rituals and history. The melody of “Ma Nishtanah” resonates throughout the school. We ask – and answer – many questions as we prepare for Passover. Grade 6 will be involved in creating Seder plates, Grade 4 will be making beautiful “mezuzot” for their houses, Grades K – 3 will meet with Temple Beth Am and Temple Beth El students for a combined interactive Passover program. Passover is our Festival of Freedom and also heralds the beginning of spring. We wish all of you a Chag Sameach and a warm and delightful spring. We deserve it! Registration is now in progress for September 2011. Once again we will have paper-free registration. Your child will automatically be promoted to the next grade. Please contact the RS office if any information needs to be changed. Please let your neighbors and friends know that this registration is taking place and for more information they can contact me at 638-0770. B’Shalom Marilyn Fellows

Adult Education at Temple Beth Sholom By: Elaine Getz
An oldie but goodie is back at Temple Beth Sholom. Remember when we had
a bagel, coffee and learned something new and/or interesting on a
Sunday morning? Well, adult education is back. Come and spend
an hour, once a month, learning and discussing some interesting topics.
Drop off your kids at Hebrew school and stay a while. Or come and meet
with some old or new friends. |
