Prayer doesn't change the world.
Prayer changes us,
and we change the world.
Blessed are all who have joined
together to pray, to learn, to do.

If Clarkstown Schools are closed for the day, our programming is cancelled.

As I write this article, the teachers and I are preparing for Parent/Teacher conferences with the parents of our three and four year old children.  These conferences are a great way for us to present the parents with a “snapshot in time” of how their children are developing socially, emotionally, cognitively and physically.  Conferences enable us to spend some quality time with the parents planning for ways in which we can create the best possible learning environment for each child.  It is a time for parents and teachers to share information about “our” children and together make the child’s experience at TBS the best it can be.

Our threes have begun our “Shabbat Parents” program.  Each parent will have the opportunity to come to school to participate in our Shabbat morning experience.  The Shabbat child of the week will go home with the prized “Shabbat backpack”, which includes a challah, candlesticks and candles, a Kiddush cup and a copy of the Shabbat CD we use in class each week.  Over the years, parents have shared with us that this is one of the highlights of their child’s early Judaic experience.

Our fours are continuing on with their “Special Child of the Week” program.  On Friday mornings, the parents of our special child come to school to celebrate Shabbat with us.  They also read to the class their child’s favorite story and donate a copy of that book to our classroom libraries.  Over the years, we have built up impressive classroom libraries through this program and the children are always eager to point out their books as well as books that were donated by their friends and siblings.

Our Toddlers have completed their “Color Days” unit.  All of the children and their teachers have been immersed in the “color of the day” as they have dressed in the color, colored and painted with the color and even eaten a snack in the color of the day.  What fun we had!

Finally, our Baby Steps children are growing up right before our eyes and it is so exciting to see children now walking, talking and really getting into the routines of the class.  Whether it’s a rousing rendition of “the marching band” or the “hokey pokey”, the little ones are joining in with the grown-ups and everyone is having a ball!
Don’t forget to join us for our Havdalah Service on February 6th at 4:30 PM in the TBS Social Hall and for our Book Discussion of “The Gilded Cage” on the evening of February 24th .

Registration for TBS Summer Camp and for the 2010-2011 school year is now on-going.  If you need registration materials, would like information, or would like to visit our program, please call me at the Nursery School office at 638-0830 or send an e-mail to tbsshalomyeladim@aol.com

TBS Religious School…

A MESSAGE FROM OUR RELIGIOUS SCHOOL

WELCOME BACK TO 2010!!!!

Tu B’Shevat is celebrated throughout the Jewish world on the 9th of Shevat. It represents a symbolic tie to the land of Israel, which is the season of nature’s rebirth.

Our Religious School students in Grades 4 – 7 will have the opportunity to have Tu B’Shevat interactive seders, where they will eat dried fruit, olives and carob from Israel. Students in Grades K – 3 will experience a “celebration of trees.”

On Tu B’Shevat we celebrate the bonds between Jews everywhere and the land of Israel. We must remember that God gave us a world and it is our job to preserve it for future generations.

PLANT A TREE – JNF – TBS RELIGIOUS SCHOOL is proud to participate in the Jewish National Fund’s “Tu
B’Shevat in Schools” program.

It’s hard to believe that we are approaching our midpoint in the school year. The coming months will be
filled with many exciting programs and events.

Parent involvement plays a major role in your child’s Jewish education. GET INVOLVED!

B’Shalom
