Sisterhood Click here or scroll down for Sisterhood Calendar -- Click here for Judaica Shop -- Scholarship Sisterhood has been busy this past summer with many fun filled events including a movie night, joint book discussion with the Young Member’s group; jewelry making, and a barbeque with Brotherhood. As the summer comes to a close, we look forward to the coming year; we will be bringing back many of our favorite programs such as the paid up Sisterhood Brunch, Girls’ Night Out, Passover Pot Luck Dinner and the Book Club with the Young Members group expertly facilitated by Lori Scott and Marilyn Fellows. We are also planning new and exciting events. Be sure to look for more information in your email. In addition to social activities, Sisterhood is involved in many charitable events, the first one being the Breast Cancer Walk at Woodbury Commons on Oct. 17. Please join us as we march for the cure, or consider making a donation. For more information contact Shari at s.alinkofsky@gmail.com. We are also committed to scholarships for Religious School students, assistance with many programs from various committees in the temple, and with Jewish agencies such as ARZA, the JCC, and through our WRJ dues, support many Jewish causes both here and in Israel. We know that everyone leads busy lives, but Sisterhood needs your help. Please support us with your membership as well as attending those functions which you find interesting. You will find a wonderful group of women who enjoy a night out as well as the satisfaction of helping the temple community. For more information please contact Marion (mbrotr@msn.com) or Phyllis (phyll@aol.com), we will be happy to answer all your questions and tell you more about Sisterhood. Wishing all our temple families a happy and healthy New Year. In Sisterhood, Marion & Phyllis
Upcoming events: The Sisterhood Campership Fund provides money to help send a temple child to camp who might otherwise not be able to do so. The Rabbi is given the money and he is the only one who knows the identity of the family. Our Seeds to the Future Fund, which provides scholarship money for a Temple child to attend religious school, is handled in the same confidential manner. Please remember these funds when you are giving donations. The Judaica shop can provide you with lots of ideas for gift giving for all occasions. Call Leah @ 634-1338 for assistance. In Sisterhood SISTERHOOD HAPPENINGS We can be reached at 634-3916 or Phyll @ aol.com Judaica Shop: Need a Confirmation gift? Give a Hebrew name bracelet. See the sample bracelet in the Judaica showcase. Order forms available in the Temple lobby or call Leah. Don’t forget the Judaica Shop for your Passover needs. If you don’t see it in the showcase call Leah Moldovan @ 634-1338.
Support Sisterhood by participating in one or more of these events. Jewish Education Scholarship The Sisterhood of Temple Beth Sholom has created and is sponsoring a new directed fund to assist students in the Congregation who are actively pursuing a Jewish education. "The Seeds for the Future Fund" will award scholarships that will be based on dedication to learning, commitment to our Congregation and the Jewish community, and financial need. The Sisterhood welcomes all donations during this economically challenging time when the "growing" of Jewish young people is more important than ever.
The
Chai Society, sometimes referred to as the "Empty Nesters," is
a group of congregants whose children have grown up and finished
school. Thus, members may actually have some extra time
to do things as a group! We
have been described as welcoming and a lot of fun!
If you are Fifty-ish, we would love to have you as a member of the TBS Chai Society. We are a dynamic group and you can add to our collective energy and spirit. For more information, call Elaine
Kaplan @ 638-0809 or Brenda Rutstein @ 638-9023.

BSTYG Seven of our teens are graduating high school: Lindsay Wasserman, Nicole Mellion, Matt Green, Jen Bassik, Randi Bassik, Laurel Brown & Jamie Etkind. With all our love and high expectations we wish them the best. In my heart I know these fine young Jewish adults will not only achieve for themselves, but perhaps more significantly will contribute to Tikkun Olam – making this world a better place. And, in a way, I fell like a ‘graduate’ as well. I have thoroughly enjoyed my 3 ½ years as youth group advisor. I thank Temple Beth Sholom for giving me this opportunity. G-d willing, I look forward to many more years as part of the TBS family. Looking ahead to September I encourage all the current youth group members to remain active in TBS activities as well as NFTY regional events. And those who currently are not members– including that wonderful group of 8th graders with whom I’ve shared Tuesday evenings this year - please consider joining the Beth Sholom Temple Youth Group. I guarantee you will be in good hands. At this writing the probable board members are: Sophie Silverman, Josh Paz, Brent Osborne, Andy Solomon & Rachel Rosenberg. Speaking for the youth group – we thank you for your support & we wish you a wonderful & safe summer. B’Shalom
For questions about membership and our activities please fell free to contact any of the board members or contact me directly: Cary Falber, at caryfal @ optonline.net, cell phone: 914-588-8609 News From Our Social Action Committee By Tobi MathiosIt is once again time to kickoff our year-long drive to help feed the hungry in Rockland County. We ended last year’s efforts collecting over 12,000 pounds of food! Won’t you please help us in reaching at least the same? Traditionally, we ask that as you fast, pledge for forgiveness and atone, that you donate the groceries you have given up on this day to help others.
