We would like to invite all men affiliated with Temple Beth Sholom to join us for an open breakfast and meeting. The breakfast will be held September 14 at 9:30am in the Social Hall. A quick meeting will follow at 11:00am. Brotherhood members are encouraged to come. Non-Members are welcome. Sisterhood Click here or scroll down for Sisterhood Calendar -- Click here for Judaica Shop -- Scholarship October was a very busy month for Sisterhood. We set up the bema with beautiful fall fruits, vegetables and flowers and gave out candy to all of the children who attended the Simchat Torah service. Over 50 women attended the wine and cheese party that we held with the sisterhood of Temple Beth El. Larry Laraia, of Laraia's Cheese Shop in Nanuet, provided us with a fun and informative evening. We also supported the American Cancer Society's Breast Cancer Walk at Woodbury Commons. We wish to thank Shari Alinkofsky for organizing this event and everyone who generously gave their time and/or donations. We'd also like to thank Brotherhood for donating the proceeds of their CD sale to this worthy cause. On November 14th we will be having a special paid-up membership brunch. We hope to see many of our sisterhood members attend. We would like to thank Shari Alikofsky, Leah Moldavan, Sally Winter, Risa Stern, Elaine Getz, Lauren Schimko, and Nancy Hoffman president of TBE sisterhood, who helped make all of these events possible. Upcoming events: The Sisterhood Campership Fund provides money to help send a temple child to camp who might otherwise not be able to do so. The Rabbi is given the money and he is the only one who knows the identity of the family. Our Seeds to the Future Fund, which provides scholarship money for a Temple child to attend religious school, is handled in the same confidential manner. Please remember these funds when you are giving donations. The Judaica shop can provide you with lots of ideas for gift giving for all occasions. Call Leah @ 634-1338 for assistance. Jewish Education Scholarship The Sisterhood of Temple Beth Sholom has created and is sponsoring a new directed fund to assist students in the Congregation who are actively pursuing a Jewish education. "The Seeds for the Future Fund" will award scholarships that will be based on dedication to learning, commitment to our Congregation and the Jewish community, and financial need. The Sisterhood welcomes all donations during this economically challenging time when the "growing" of Jewish young people is more important than ever.
The
Chai Society, sometimes referred to as the "Empty Nesters," is
a group of congregants whose children have grown up and finished
school. Thus, members may actually have some extra time
to do things as a group! We
have been described as welcoming and a lot of fun!
If you are Fifty-ish, we would love to have you as a member of the TBS Chai Society. We are a dynamic group and you can add to our collective energy and spirit. For more information, call Elaine
Kaplan @ 638-0809 or Brenda Rutstein @ 638-9023.
INVITES YOU TO JOIN US FOR A PREVIOUS BRIDGE EXPERIENCE IS NOT NEEDED ‘CAUSE COST: $17.00 per person for members
More information will be available via the Lamp and flyers that are located in the Temple lobby. For more information or questions, call Elaine Kaplan 638-0809 or Brenda Rutstein 638-9023. BSTYG I can not believe it is still snowing! If weather cooperated and all went well this January was a fun month for the youth group! We had two joint events between our youth group and Monroe’s youth group.
Over the Martin Luther King weekend, we had a blast at the shul-in at Monroe. Our trip to the Castle Fun center also gave us a chance to bond and grow new friendships with other temple youth. We have many things on our calendars in February. Hagigah weekend of February 5th is a 'nifty' NFTY weekend away with other youth group teens in Franklin Lakes NJ. The bake sale was cancelled because of weather but has been rescheduled for same day as the Purim carnival on the 28th of February. We are going to need lots of help with setting up the night before [the 27th]. Also if you are willing to donate prizes for the raffle or help out by working a booth please let us know. And as a final reminder the youth group trip to see Chicago on Broadway is scheduled for March 14th. Please contact Cary Falber for information on purchasing tickets for CHICAGO or about the Purim carnival.
